Mallorca vs Barcelona Preview

Barcelona are back in action for the first time in three months this Saturday as they leave the Spanish mainland to take on Mallorca in Palma. There’s plenty at stake for both sides with Mallorca battling against relegation while the visitors will want a strong start as they resume their bid to pip Real Madrid to the title.

Mallorca have already beaten Los Blancos at home this season so are hoping to complete a famous double here. It has predictably been a tough season for Mallorca overall though, following immediately on from back-to-back promotions however they’ve at least put themselves in a position where they have a chance of staying up with 11 games to go. They’d just found a decent run of form prior to the unexpected halt to the season, taking 7 points from their last 4 matches including a first away win of the campaign at Eibar last time out.

Barcelona meanwhile were beaten 2-0 at the Bernabeu in their most recent away match. Many saw that as a real momentum shift in the title race but the Catalans would reclaim top spot the following weekend by beating Real Sociedad at home while Real Madrid lost at Betis.

There is a theory at least that the break may have benefited Barcelona more. They now have Luis Suarez fit again and have had a bit of time on the training ground for Quique Setien to attempt to get his ideas across to this side which has had an underwhelming season despite their position at the summit of the league.

Leo Messi is in full training again following an injury scare and looks set to start for the visitors here along with Suarez, who many thought had played his last game for Barça. Quique Setien may though need to manage the playing time of his star names, most of whom are over 30 and may struggle with the demands of two games per week over this hectic period.

Mallorca meanwhile are likely to name Kubo in their starting lineup. The Japanese youngster was starting to really show his quality when the season grinded to a halt and this is a great chance for him to do both his current and parent clubs a favour.

Mallorca vs Barcelona Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-0 Barcelona

The return of Luis Suarez is clearly a big boost for Barcelona and they should be able to name something very close to their strongest starting XI here. With Griezmann, Suarez and Messi up top, they ought to have enough firepower to win this game with some breathing space and the absence of fans will make it hard for Mallorca to enjoy much of a home advantage.
