Real Betis vs Real Madrid Match Preview

The weekend action in La Liga concludes with the standout fixture from this matchday. It sees Real Madrid, fresh from their Clasico victory, head to Seville for what could be a tricky game against an underperforming Real Betis side. The Andalusians may not be in great form but they are always capable of making it tough for the big sides with the help of passionate backing from the Benito Villamarin.

Betis head into this without a win in 6 league games. That sequence has really piled the pressure on Rubi with the strong suspicion being that he may be replaced this summer. Despite that, he hasn’t lost the Betis fans in the way Quique Setien did last term and a strong end to the campaign could yet buy him another season. In the short term though, Betis have to be a bit careful that they don’t get sucked into an unlikely relegation scrap although in truth they should have comfortably enough quality to avoid that.

Clasico wins are always big but Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Barcelona last weekend felt like a significant shift in this year’s Spanish title race. That being said, it certainly wasn’t a knockout blow. Real Madrid are only one point clear of the Catalans heading into this weekend and will most likely have lost top spot again by the time this kicks off.

Real Madrid travel south with the best away record in La Liga. They’ve collected 7 points more than the Catalans this season on their travels, despite suffering defeat at Levante in their most recent road game. Betis will be hoping the likes of Nabil Fekir can inspire them to a famous victory but they have struggled in these big home games this season with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and city rivals Sevilla having all recorded victories on this ground already this term.

Real Betis vs Real Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Real Madrid

This fixture has often produced plenty of goals in the past and it’s worth noting that both teams have scored in 92% of Betis’ home fixtures this season in La Liga. That certainly suggests we will see some goalmouth action in this one but Los Blancos are stronger defensively than they have been in recent years and they look capable of coming away with a valuable three points against a Betis side that is easy on the eye but a bit too easy to play against.
