Alaves vs Valencia Match Preview
Valencia head to Vitoria this Friday to take on an Alaves side that boasts one of the most deadly strike partnerships in La Liga. It’s a game that Los Che could really do with winning as they look to get their push for a top four finish back on track but it is rarely that simple at Mendizorroza.
Alaves are in pretty decent form with just 1 defeat in their last 5 league matches. That came away to Mallorca but despite that they are now 9 points above the Balearic Islanders who occupy the highest of the three relegation places. Victory here would put Asier Garitano’s side in a position where they could probably afford to start planning for life back in this league next season.
Alaves have won twice as many games as they’ve lost at home this season. Valencia meanwhile have lost over half of their away league games, winning just 3. Their recent away form is particularly worrying. They’ve been beaten by 3 clear goals in each of their last 3 matches on the road in La Liga, losing to Mallorca, Getafe and Real Sociedad. They also lost the 1st Leg of their Champions League last 16 clash with Atalanta by the same margin and will have one eye on the return meeting, which will be played behind closed doors, at Mestalla next week.
In terms of team news, the hosts are missing wideman Aleix Vidal to suspension. Valencia meanwhile still have significant injury problems with Maxi Gomez, Ezequiel Garay, Cristiano Piccini and Eliaquim Mangala sidelined while youngster Ferran Torres is also a doubt.

Valencia have been woeful in some of their recent away games and they could struggle again here. Joselu and Lucas Perez have formed a fine partnership up top for Alaves with 20 goals between them this season in La Liga. They are capable of putting an injury-ravaged Valencia defence to the sword.
