Real Sociedad vs Real Valladolid Preview

Matchday 26 in La Liga kicks off in Donostia where Real Sociedad play host to Real Valladolid. On paper, it’s a game that the hosts should win but they have slipped up against some of the lesser sides this term and Real Valladolid have got results in plenty of games where you wouldn’t necessarily have expected them to do so.

La Real shouldn’t be struggling for incentive here. Victory would see them go level on points with Atletico Madrid in 3rd and after the same number of games as all the other top four hopefuls (their match with Eibar was postponed a couple of weeks ago). It would also set them up nicely for next week’s Copa del Rey Semi-Final 2nd Leg at Mirandes and Imanol’s side have no reason not to believe with victories in each of their last 6 matches on this ground in all competitions.

Real Valladolid meanwhile picked up a vital 2-1 win over Espanyol last weekend. Defeat would have seen them really sucked back into the relegation scrap but they now hold a 10 point advantage on the bottom two and are 7 points clear of Mallorca in 18th. They’ve a very respectable away record too with an average of one point per game on their travels this term in the Spanish top flight, the 9th best record in the division.

La Real ought to be able to field something very close to their strongest eleven here with Oyarzabal, Isak and Portu set to form the front three again. Real Valladolid will go with their usual 4-4-2 and it could be something of a rear-guard action from them. It’ll be interesting to see whether La Real are good enough to break down what is La Liga’s 6th best defence with the visitors having conceded just 28 times this season in 25 matches.

Real Sociedad vs Real Valladolid Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Real Sociedad

Real Valladolid are a team that don’t get the credit they deserve. They’ve conceded fewer goals than league leaders Barcelona and are capable of being competitive in just about every game they play. This though is an in-form Real Sociedad side and one that is on a roll at Anoeta and they should just be able to keep that momentum going with another victory here but it could be tighter than many are expecting.
