Real Betis vs Mallorca Preview

The Friday night game this week comes from the Benito Villamarin. It sees a Mallorca side that claimed a vital win last weekend, travel to take on Real Betis who are struggling for results despite some decent recent performances. The hosts need three points here to keep their slim hopes of European qualification alive.

We did see Espanyol last season go on a late charge to clinch 7th place and European football. Their coach Rubi is now the boss of Real Betis and he will no doubt be trying to instil the same belief in this squad. It’s only one win and just 7 points in 8 games for Betis heading into this though. Only Athletic Club have picked up fewer points over that period.

Mallorca have an identical record of 7 points from their last 8 games too. They picked up a vital 1-0 win over Alaves last time out but still slipped back into the relegation zone after Celta Vigo’s surprise draw at the Bernabeu. Mallorca’s away struggles are well documented though and a tally of just one away point all season, simply has to improve if they are going to stand a realistic chance of staying up.

Their hopes here aren’t improved by the return of Nabil Fekir. The Frenchman is available again following a ban and has been the standout performer for Betis this term. Mallorca boss Vicente Moreno meanwhile must decide whether or not to risk starting with the more creative force of Takefusa Kubo whose introduction off the bench last week helped turn the tide in Mallorca’s favour.

Real Betis vs Mallorca Predictions

Score Prediction: 3-1 Betis

Real Betis have picked up 20 home points this season while Mallorca have just 1 away. Those facts alone strongly point in one direction here and Betis are a side with sufficient attacking quality to exploit Mallorca’s defensive weaknesses. It is though worth noting that a huge 92% of Betis home league games this term have seen both teams score so there could be a goal in this for the visitors too.
