Celta Vigo vs Leganes Preview

This is a massive game at the bottom of La Liga as two of the bottom four sides clash at Balaidos. Celta will see this as a real chance to put some distance between themselves and at least two of the teams below them as they take on a Leganes side that is reeling from the departure of top scorer Martin Braithwaite to Barcelona this week.

On the face of it, this might not be the best time to be playing Celta either. After months of waiting, there is finally signs of life in what on paper has the potential to be at least a mid-table team. Celta came from behind to beat Sevilla at the death in their last home game and then collected an excellent point at the Bernabeu last weekend with Denis Suarez sublimely setting up Santi Mina for another vital late goal to seal the point.

As for Leganes, they’ve competed well since Javier Aguirre took charge but they are now in a desperate situation after the departures of forwards Youssef En-Nesyri and Martin Braithwaite. In both cases, their release fees were met with Braithwaite leaving for Barcelona this week after the transfer window had shut. Controversially, or perhaps that should be ridiculously, the Spanish football authorities allowed Barcelona to make an emergency signing after the injury to Ousmane Dembele yet there is no rule in place allowing Leganes to now do likewise to compensate for the loss of the Norwegian.

As a result, they are now in a situation where only one player in their squad has scored more than one league goal this season. None of their other remaining forwards have scored. Celta will be hoping to make them pay here but Lega have little time to sulk about the unfairness of the situation given this is arguably the biggest game of their season so far.

Celta Vigo vs Leganes Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-0 Celta

Celta are finally starting to show some signs of life and in truth they have more than enough quality in the final third to pull themselves clear of danger. Leganes won’t throw in the towel, but it’s just hard to see where their goal threat is going to come from now and it’s hard to see them getting anything from this game nor avoiding the drop to the Segunda Division.
