Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo Preview

Real Madrid are now the clear favourites to win La Liga and they will also be strongly expected to win this match against struggling Celta Vigo. The Galicians do at least come here on the back of a much needed win last time out but they’ll see any kind of result from this game as a massive bonus.

Los Blancos have reeled off 5 straight league victories to take a stranglehold on this title race. The most recent was a convincing 4-1 comeback victory at Osasuna with several squad players making significant contributions. After a rare full week off, Zinedine Zidane’s side should be fresh and ready to go here and he has no reason not to pick his strongest available eleven with no midweek games this coming week either.

Celta Vigo dealt their survival hopes a huge boost last weekend as they scored twice in the final 12 minutes to beat Sevilla 2-1 at Balaidos. They gained three positions thanks to those goals to jump from bottom to 17th and outside of the relegation zone. It was also a win that relieved some pressure on coach Oscar Garcia who was just starting to feel the strain with limited signs of a turnaround under his management.

Eden Hazard remains sidelined for Los Blancos, although he is closing in on a return. That should see Isco continue his run in the side with Zinedine Zidane again likely to name a midfield-heavy side. The main absence for Celta is the suspended Hugo Mallo although centre-back Jeison Murillo is also a fitness concern and the visitors will be desperately hoping he is passed fit to start.

Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid have all the hallmarks of a title-winning side as they continue to churn out victories, regardless of whether they are at their best or not. Celta Vigo have more potential than they have shown this season but having lost 64% of their away league games, it’s hard to make any case for them getting a result here.
