Real Sociedad vs Mirandes Preview
The second Copa del Rey Semi-Final kicks off this Thursday with the 1st Leg of the tie between Real Sociedad and Mirandes. La Real are now the favourites to win this competition and in doing so end a 33 year major trophy drought. However they will be eager to secure a clear advantage here to ease the pressure on the 2nd Leg at Anduva.
Real Sociedad have put together one of the most exciting young teams in Europe’s big leagues and they come into this game fresh from an outstanding week. They produced a brilliant performance to win at the Bernabeu last Thursday with Alexander Isak, who now has 12 goals in 12 games, starring in the 4-3 win. They backed that up with victory in the Basque derby at the weekend with Isak again instrumental.
This will be a real test for Mirandes. They’ve already sent three top flight teams packing from the competition with Celta, Sevilla and Villarreal all exiting the competition at Anduva. However this this is the first time they’ve had to take on a top flight side away from home and if La Real are at their best, it may turn into a damage limitation exercise for the visitors who will just want to be in the tie heading into the 2nd Leg when they will believe anything is possible.
Andoni Gorosabel is suspended for the hosts after his red card last week but that’s not a significant blow with Joseba Zaldua available here to take his place at right-back. In-form Alexander Isak will return up top having only been used off the bench against Athletic, especially with Willian Jose being strongly linked with a move to Barcelona. Left-back Enric Franquesa is the main concern for Mirandes after he hobbled off in the win over Villarreal last week.
Real Sociedad vs Mirandes Predictions
Score Prediction: 3-1 Real Sociedad
This will be a big ask for Mirandes as Real Sociedad are a side packed with attacking quality and they could take a huge step towards April’s Final with victory here. Despite their progress, Mirandes have conceded in all five rounds so far in this year’s competition with 10 conceded in total. They have proved they do have a goal in them though with Matheus in fine form up top and they look capable of nicking one here which will give them a chance in the 2nd Leg.
