The weekend action starts in La Liga with a Friday night Basque derby in Vitoria as Alaves play host to Eibar. Aside from the local rivalry, this is a significant game with the teams currently level on points just above the relegation scrap. Victory for either would lift them to 13th and offer some genuine breathing space.
Alaves aren’t in great form with only 1 win from their last 8 in La Liga. Only two sides have picked up fewer points than them over that period. However they do head into this after an excellent draw at Sevilla last weekend and Asier Garitano will remain confident that his strike-force of Joselu and Lucas Perez can fire them to safety this term. The former has been outstanding in recent weeks and has netted 6 times in his last 10 league appearances.
Eibar meanwhile head into this in slightly better overall shape with just 1 defeat in their last 6 matches in La Liga. Defensively they’ve really tightened up since the turn of the year with just 2 goals conceded in total across those matches. They have only picked up one away win so far this term though and only three sides have collected fewer points on the road than them.
We shouldn’t see any major surprises in the team selections for this one. Alaves will play their usual 4-4-2 and they can at times be quite direct with Joselu acting as their target man. Eibar also like to get lots of balls into the box but place greater emphasis on their wide play with Takashi Inui and Pedro Leon likely to be their wingers again here.

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Eibar are the side in much the better form but Alaves don’t lose many at home, certainly not against the teams in and around them in the league. This is unlikely to be one for the purists but it should be a competitive, hard-fought contest that may well end up all square.
