Sevilla vs Alaves Preview
Sevilla return to league action this Sunday after a shock cup exit at Mirandes. The 3-1 defeat was their worst showing since the appointment of Julen Lopetegui in the summer and the Andalusian side may feel as though they owe their supporters a performance here against Alaves after such a poor display.
They have largely been delivering the goods in La Liga at least. A return of 14 points from their last 8 games has kept their push for Champions League football on track. With Atleti faltering, they may even fancy their chances of breaking into the top three this season. Sevilla are currently 3rd although their advantage on the chasing pack isn’t yet significant enough that they can afford a downturn in form.
Alaves are a team that over the past couple of years has largely been strong at home but poor on the road. That seemed to be the narrative for this season too but curiously their last two league wins have both come away from home, against Eibar and Levante. They’d only taken one point on their travels all season prior to that.
Despite those two recent away wins, Alaves will certainly still travel as clear underdogs here. Their chances aren’t helped by the non availability of Aleix Vidal against his parent club nor the suspension of Rodrigo Ely. Sevilla meanwhile are without key defender Diego Carlos which is a blow.

Score Prediction: 2-1 Sevilla
Alaves will fancy they can exploit any weaknesses in the Sevilla defence that result from Diego Carlos’ absence. Sevilla could have really used him to help deal with the aerial threat of Joselu. The visitors could have a bit of joy there but overall Sevilla are much the stronger side with more creative quality which should enable them to create enough chances to win this game against an Alaves side that has conceded 2.3 goals per game on average away this term in La Liga.
