Real Valladolid vs Real Madrid Preview

The weekend action in La Liga concludes at the Jose Zorrilla where Real Valladolid play host to Real Madrid. Los Blancos are looking to continue their impressive start to 2020 having already clinched silverware and won back-to-back league games. Real Valladolid have proved themselves to be difficult opponents for some of the big clubs though so this won’t be a stroll in the park for Los Blancos.

Valladolid got an excellent point at the Bernabeu earlier this season and they come into this game having drawn 5 of their last 6 matches in La Liga. A lack of an obvious goal threat is their biggest flaw with Sergio’s team averaging just 0.85 goals per game this term. They’ve failed to net in 6 of their last 8 league games so their approach here is likely to be to try and keep things tight and hope they can forge an opening on the break or capitalise on a mistake.

Real Madrid go into this one following a 3-1 victory in Salamanca in the Copa del Rey and they’ve already seen off Getafe and Sevilla so far this year in La Liga. Depending on Barcelona’s result on Saturday at Valencia, they may have the chance to take pole position here and they certainly look capable of pushing the Catalans all the way this season in the title race, which is a major improvement on the last two seasons.

A much improved defensive showing has been key and they head into this match with the joint best defensive record in Europe’s big five leagues along with Reims in France. Los Blancos do have some selection issues here though with Dani Carvajal suspended and both Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale carrying knocks. Valladolid meanwhile should be at full strength.

Real Valladolid vs Real Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-0 Real Madrid

With Real Madrid boasting La Liga’s best defensive record and Valladolid having scored just 3 goals in their last 8 league matches, it’s hard to see the hosts posing much of an attacking threat in this match. Los Blancos are in good form and while they are unlikely to run riot, this is a match they should win.
