Real Betis vs Real Sociedad Preview

This one of the most eye-catching games this weekend in La Liga. These sides have played out some cracking contests in recent years, most notably the 4-4 at Anoeta in 2017 but perhaps surprisingly there has only been one goal scored in total across the last three meetings in Seville. With two positive coaches at the helm of these clubs now, we might see a bit more action this weekend though.

Indeed all of Real Betis’ last 7 games have seen both teams score. Their results have been a bit mixed although there has been an overall upward trend since a difficult start to life under Rubi. They still have plenty of ground to make up if they are going to push themselves into a position to really challenge for European qualification but victory here would certainly be a big step in the right direction.

Sociedad will see Europa League qualification as the minimum goal now after a strong first half to the campaign from their exciting young team. They are perhaps not consistent enough to make the top four and their recent results are a good example of that. La Real have won 9 of their 19 league games to date but they haven’t put back-to-back victories together in La Liga since October when they beat Celta Vigo and this weekend’s opposition Real Betis.

Both sides have some notable absentees which could have an impact on this game. Nabil Fekir and Zouhair Feddal are both suspended for Betis with the former a big miss. Fekir has largely lived up to the hype that came with his summer signing even if his goal and assist tallies are bit lower than some Betis fans would have hoped for. The hosts should also hand a first league start to Barcelona loanee Carles Aleñá in midfield.

Real Sociedad meanwhile will be forced into some defensive changes with Igor Zubeldia suspended and Nacho Monreal sidelined through injury until the end of the month.

Real Betis vs Real Sociedad Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-2 Draw

This has all the makings of a good game with Real Sociedad playing positive football that should open up the contest. Both sides have been scoring and conceding plenty in recent weeks. La Real are the stronger outfit if the first half of the season is anything to go by but the absences of Zubeldia and Monreal are significant and there should be chances in this for Betis. A score draw looks a likely outcome.
