Mallorca vs Valencia Preview

Valencia travel to Palma this Sunday looking to further their push for a top four finish for a third successive year. They head into the weekend 4 points outside of the Champions League places but will take confidence from having finished so strongly last season, admittedly under different management. Mallorca meanwhile need a result having slipped into the relegation zone on the last matchday.

This was always going to be a tough season for Mallorca following back-to-back promotions and overall they’ve acquitted themselves about as well as could have been expected given that and the relative lack of investment in the summer. They are certainly one team who could do with some fresh blood this month and they have added a new face this week with wide player Alejandro Pozo joining on loan from Sevilla.

There haven’t been any new arrivals at the Mestalla yet despite a fair few injury absentees although their problems should have eased considerably by the end of the month. Valencia head into this match in good form having taken 17 points from their last 8 league games, a record only Barcelona and Real Madrid can better. They were a bit disappointing in the Supercopa last time out though, with Los Blancos easily defeating them in Saudi Arabia.

Valencia are missing Rodrigo Moreno to injury so we should see Kevin Gameiro partner Maxi Gomez in attack for this one. Mallorca may consider shifting to a back three for this game but they are at least boosted by the return of top scorer Ante Budimir from suspension and he may lead the line with Kubo in behind.

Mallorca vs Valencia Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-0 Valencia

Just 1 point from 6 games is a real worry for Mallorca, particularly given they are starting to suffer a few defeats at home where they were so strong for almost all of 2019. Sevilla and Betis have both won at Son Moix recently and Valencia look capable of making it 3 straight home defeats for the Balearic Islanders here.
