Getafe vs Real Madrid Preview

This is a local derby in the Spanish capital as Real Madrid make the short trip south to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. They’ve a pretty strong record against this opposition in recent years but Geta have developed into really awkward opponents and they look to have laid the foundations for another strong campaign.

Indeed no side has taken more points from their last 8 fixtures than Getafe. They’ve taken 17 from those games despite seeing their unbeaten streak come to an end last time out away to Villarreal. At the Coliseum they’ve been doing most of the things they did well last term whilst offering a bit more in terms of creativity largely thanks to some smart summer additions in the wide areas.

Real Madrid have also got better as the season has progressed. They will feel as though their performances merited more than the results they have managed to get in recent weeks though with draws in each of their last three league games including the Clasico at Camp Nou which they probably should have won. That result combined with another goalless draw against Athletic Club last time out means they head into the new year two points behind Barcelona in the Spanish title race.

This is certainly another game where there is at least the potential that Real Madrid drop points but Zinedine Zidane will be desperate for that not to happen. He’s hampered by the suspension of Sergio Ramos though and with Marcelo also sidelined, it will be something of a makeshift back four that takes to the field here for Los Blancos.

Getafe vs Real Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw

Real Madrid have been playing well but a return of just 1 goal scored in 3 matches is clearly a worry heading into a match against one of La Liga’s meanest defences. Getafe are scoring goals too with 1.89 home goals on average in their matches this term at the Coliseum. For all they’ve achieved over the past couple of years though, they have struggled to upset the big boys and it’s hard to see them claiming all three points here with Jose Bordalas still certain to see a draw as a good result.
