Mallorca vs Sevilla Preview

Mallorca and Sevilla return to league action this Saturday having both claimed narrow 1-0 wins against fourth tier sides in the Copa del Rey in midweek. We should see both teams return to close to their strongest elevens here and there’s plenty at stake. Sevilla would move to within 2 points of the top of La Liga with a win while Mallorca will guarantee they head into 2020 outside the relegation zone if they can claim the victory.

They picked up a vital point on the road against Celta Vigo last weekend with Ante Budimir’s goal ensuring they left Balaidos with a 2-2 draw. That was the first time this season that they’ve avoided defeat on their travels and they did so despite having been reduced to 10 men. It is just 1 win in 8 in La Liga for Mallorca heading into this though and this will be a real test against a strong Sevilla side.

Julen Lopetegui’s men suffered a setback in their most recent league outing though as Villarreal claimed a surprise 2-1 win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Sevilla have long made a living out of their strong home record but they are actually enjoying life on their travels more this term. No side in La Liga has claimed more points on the road than Sevilla who have recorded 5 wins away from the RSP already in the league to collect a total of 17 points.

Sevilla can also count on the services of key winger Lucas Ocampos again here following suspension. That could be significant given he is their top scorer by a comfortable margin. Munir meanwhile is likely to get another chance on the opposite flank with Nolito still carrying a knock.

Antonio Raillo is out suspended for Mallorca which will see them forced into a change at centre-back.

Mallorca vs Sevilla Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Sevilla

Sevilla have been enjoying life away from home and while they haven’t been outclassing teams and are unlikely to do that here, they have been consistently finding a way to win. The return of Ocampos is a big boost and with Munir starting to look lively, they may just have stumbled upon their best front three. That could be enough to see off a Mallorca side that has conceded twice or more in 6 of their last 7 in La Liga.

We have match previews and predictions for every game in La Liga this season.
