Celta Vigo vs Mallorca predictions, H2H and match preview for this Sunday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups ahead of this huge clash at the bottom.
Celta Vigo vs Mallorca Preview
This is a huge game at the bottom of La Liga with Celta Vigo currently in 18th and just one place and one point behind Mallorca. Neither side take any real momentum into this game and if there’s a winner either way, it would be a really significant result as the relegation picture in the Spanish top flight this season starts to take shape.
Celta Vigo looked to have turned a corner when they went to Villarreal and pulled off a shock 3-1 victory a few weeks back. That ended a long losing streak and gave Oscar Garcia his first win as boss. However a return of just one point from matches against fellow strugglers Real Valladolid and Leganes since then means they remain in the dropzone heading into another crunch game.
Despite their struggles, Celta will be expected to win this one given Mallorca are yet to pick up a single point on their travels. They were beaten 5-2 at Barcelona in their most recent road game but they are going to need to get a few results in fixtures like this if they are going to avoid relegation this season with currently too much pressure being placed on their home fixtures.
Mallorca have a doubt over Dani Rodriguez heading into this match which could see Lago Junior get the nod out wide. They can at least take a bit of encouragement from the form of striker Ante Budimir who has now netted 5 times this season in La Liga.
That’s the same number that Iago Aspas has managed but worryingly for Celta, none of their other players have scored more than once. They have at least looked a greater collective threat since the change in coach with 6 goals in 4 games under Garcia so far, the same number they managed in the 12 matches this season prior to his appointment.
Celta Vigo vs Mallorca Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-1 Celta
Mallorca are bringing plenty to La Liga this season and they have proved they can be competitive at home but it’s almost impossible to back them to get a result away right now. Celta have shown tentative signs that they may heading in the right direction and in a big game like this, the stage appears to be set for Aspas to make another match-winning contribution.
