Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna Preview

Saturday’s action in La Liga concludes with newly promoted Osasuna making the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico Madrid are already looking like they may be too far back to claw themselves into title contention but with Barcelona and Real Madrid faced with tough away games this weekend, they may see this as a chance to at least close the gap.

Atleti picked up an important victory against a poor Lokomotiv Moscow side in midweek to secure progress into the Champions League knockout stage. They’ve won just 1 of their last 6 in the league though, nowhere near good enough for a side of their quality. An inability to convert chances has been a major factor in their recent struggles with only 5 teams in La Liga having netted fewer times this term than Atleti (16) heading into this weekend’s fixtures.

Osasuna have fired in 22 and they’ve been pretty solid at the back too making this an excellent return to the top flight so far for the Pamplona outfit. They’ve lost just 1 of their last 7 heading into this match but a bit like Atleti, they have been drawing a lot of games. Indeed this match pits together the division’s two draw specialists with both sides having seen 50% of their league outings this term finish up all square.

That certainly suggests the margins could be fine here although with home advantage, clearly the onus will be on Atleti to dictate the game. With Diego Costa injured, it’s almost certain to be Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata up top again but there is pressure building on the duo to start delivering the goods in front of goal.

Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-0 Atleti

Atleti put in one of their most assured performances of the season in midweek although they weren’t really tested at any point by Lokomotiv. This is likely to be a tougher game against an Osasuna side that is really battling but Los Rojiblancos are still creating chances and they are due a bit more luck in front of goal. One goal might be enough for them here.
