Osasuna vs Sevilla Preview

The matchday 16 action in La Liga concludes with an intriguing game in Pamplona as an Osasuna side that boasts an impressive home record takes on Sevilla who have excelled away this term. The visitors are looking to try and keep in touch with Barcelona and Real Madrid with Julen Lopetegui’s side currently looking good for Champions League qualification.

Osasuna’s ambitions aren’t that lofty but they’ve already shown more than enough to suggest they will do more than merely survive this season on their return to the top flight. Their club record unbeaten home run did end in their last outing at El Sadar against Athletic however they bounced back in style with a 4-2 win away to a very poor Espanyol side. If they could chalk up another victory here, they’d be knocking on the door of the European places, an exceptional effort in their first season back at this level.

Sevilla are one of La Liga’s form teams though with the Andalusians heading into this having taken 17 points from their last 7 matches. They don’t always convince in the final third with their last two wins coming via 1-0 margins against Real Valladolid and Leganes but defensively there is now clear evidence that they are much stronger this season with Diego Carlos making a big impression at the back.

Osasuna are likely to test them more than their most recent opponents though and this has the potential to be a good game with both sides keen for their full-backs to push right forward. Both sides have some selection issues though with Osasuna keeper Sergio Herrera an injury doubt while defender Facundo Roncaglia is suspended. Sevilla meanwhile will be without Lucas Ocampos and potentially Fernando, two of their most important players this term.

Osasuna vs Sevilla Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-2 Draw

There have been plenty of goals in Osasuna’s games of late and that trend could continue here, particularly given the defensive reshuffle they are likely to be forced into. If Fernando fails to overcome his injury, that will be a major boost for the home team though as he has played a key role in protecting this Sevilla defence. A score draw could be on the cards in this one.
