Leganes vs Celta Vigo betting tips

Leganes vs Celta Vigo Preview

This is a massive game at the foot of La Liga for both sides but especially for Leganes. Lose it and they’d be 10 points behind Celta Vigo who would climb out of the relegation zone (assuming Mallorca don’t pull off any miracles on Saturday at Camp Nou). With the midway point in the season drawing ever nearer, you sense that would already be too much of a gap for Lega to have a serious chance of closing during the second half of the campaign.

Victory though for Leganes might just reignite a belief that they can fight back to eventually beat the drop but this is a game they really do need to win. They’ve only done that once so far this season and they’ve only taken 1 point from 3 games so far under new boss Javier Aguirre. In fairness to the Mexican, he has had some tricky fixtures so far but this match commences a sequence which sees Leganes face four straight matches against bottom eight teams and they really need to make them count.

The bad news for the hosts is that Celta Vigo, who also changed their coach last month, do appear to be turning the tide a bit following their poor start to the campaign. A 3-1 win at Villarreal in their most recent away game felt like it might have been the turning point in their season and they probably should have beaten Real Valladolid at Balaidos last time out with the match ending up goalless.

For a side with plenty of players blessed with attacking qualities, Celta really should have more than 10 goals from 15 games so far this term. Oscar Garcia’s appointment has brought about a more positive approach but they still look a bit too heavily reliant on Iago Aspas for attacking inspiration with the Galician responsible for 40% of his team’s goals again this term, even in what has been a below par campaign by his standards.

Leganes vs Celta Vigo Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw

This is a tough one to call. Both sides are better than their respective points tallies and league positions suggest but both are also out of the habit of winning football matches. Celta have shown more signs that they are about to turn things around but a record of just 1 win from 19 away league games suggests they may have to settle for a point in this one.
