Celta Vigo vs Real Valladolid Preview

Celta Vigo head into this Friday’s clash with Real Valladolid on a positive note having claimed their most significant victory of the season to date last time out at Villarreal. This will be their first home game since sacking Fran Escriba and appointing Oscar Garcia and the early signs suggest that’s a change that has already improved things after a miserable start to the campaign. The Galicians will fancy they can chalk up another win here against a Real Valladolid side that is aiming to avoid a third straight defeat.

Garcia’s first game was at Camp Nou so it was always going to be tough to read too much into that but certainly last time out, Celta looked like a much more dangerous attacking outfit with Iago Aspas back in amongst the goals in the 3-1 win at the Ceramica. Pione Sisto is another who looks like he could benefit from the change in coach. The Dane starred down the left flank as Celta ended a 5 game losing streak with an impressive victory.

Real Valladolid were narrowly beaten by Sevilla in the late game on Sunday as they suffered their first home defeat of the campaign. They actually collected more points on their travels last season and they’ve made a respectable start to life on the road this time around, currently averaging one point per away game which is considerably better than some in the bottom half.

Valladolid would only be 3 points above the relegation and just 2 above Celta were they to lose this one though so it’s a significant game for both clubs. The hosts know that victory would see them climb out of the drop-zone at last and it’d really bunch things up at the bottom end of the division.

We are unlikely to see many changes from last week for Celta who went with Aspas playing up top in something resembling a 4-2-3-1 which seems to be the way Garcia wants to go. Real Valladolid meanwhile will stick with their regular 4-4-2.

Celta Vigo vs Real Valladolid Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Celta Vigo

Celta’s lack of attacking threat in the first 12 games can largely be attributed to the cautious tactics of Fran Escriba whose slow, possession-based game wasn’t really working. They have plenty of talent in their ranks and should be doing much better in truth and you sense last weekend’s win could just be the start of an Oscar Garcia honeymoon period which may see them ease clear of danger. They look the likely winners here.
