Mallorca vs Villarreal predictions, H2H and match preview for this Sunday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as the new boys aim to bounce back from a poor showing last weekend.
Mallorca vs Villarreal Preview
Mallorca’s season has already developed a pretty clear trend in that their survival prospects are going to be hugely dependent on their home results. Their failure to even pick up a point on the road is putting real pressure on them in games like this and they could do with another strong home showing against a Villarreal side that is hoping to break into the top six.
The latest setback for Mallorca came last weekend and it was almost certainly their worst showing of the season, as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at Real Valladolid. Since that famous win over Real Madrid, they’ve managed to collect just 1 point from 3 games, all of which were against sides that were tipped to struggle this season. That will be a real concern for Vicente Moreno whose side are just 2 points outside the drop-zone heading into this weekend.
Villarreal are only 2 points off the top six and that’s increasingly looking like it’s a realistic target for the Yellow Submarine this season. There have been improvements across the pitch on a lacklustre showing in the 2018/19 campaign, particularly in the final third with Gerard Moreno having netted 8 times already in La Liga this time around while Karl Toko Ekambi has 5.
Both men should start here although the latter is a minor doubt with a hamstring complaint. Mallorca meanwhile are missing veteran midfielder Salva Sevilla to suspension. That may see the youthful duo of Takefusa Kubo and Aleix Febas both start. Both players are clearly exciting talents but Mallorca are going to need them to mature quickly this season as they battle to beat the drop.
Mallorca vs Villarreal Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-2 Draw
This promises to be quite open. Villarreal will come looking for three points and they should get more space than they did last weekend against a defensive Athletic Club side. The absence of Salva Sevilla may really open things up in the middle of the park and with plenty of creativity in both sides, we could see a few goals in this one.
