This match has the feel of Fran Escriba’s final last chance with many surprised that he remains in the Celta Vigo hotseat despite further defeats over the past week. Celta come into the weekend on the back of three straight losses that have seen them plunge into the bottom three and they could even end match-day 12 propping up the division.
It won’t be lost on Celta fans that Espanyol and Leganes, the other two teams in the relegation zone, have already dismissed coaches this season. Neither side came into the season with ambitions to match those of the Galician club. A last gasp defeat at Real Betis in midweek was the latest setback and a record of just 6 goals in 11 games so far is pitiful given the talent they have in their ranks.
Getafe meanwhile have netted 17 and are slowly shedding their defensive reputation. They have been more vulnerable at the back than they were last term but the signs are quite positive and Jose Bordalas will be content to see his side within striking distance of the top six again despite their added European commitments.
Certainly Geta have much greater depth this season with real competition for places up front where Angel continues to stake a real claim for a regular start ahead of one of last season’s trusted front two of Jorge Molina and Jaime Mata. Celta Vigo meanwhile are desperate for talisman Iago Aspas to come to the party on a more consistent basis. He has netted between 19 and 22 goals in each of the last three La Liga seasons but has only a couple of goals to his name so far this term.

Getafe look much the more convincing side but they don’t win away from home with too much regularity. They’ve won just 1 of their last 10 on the road in La Liga, drawing 5 and it would be no surprise if this one finishes all square with Celta not posing enough of an attacking threat to suggest they will win the game. It would also be no surprise if they have a new coach by the time they travel to Camp Nou next weekend.
