This is perhaps the pick of the weekend games in La Liga as Diego Simone’s Atletico Madrid travel to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to face Sevilla. Both sides are something of a work in progress following major summer overhauls and it’ll be interesting to see how they shape up against one another here.

Sevilla will be pretty content with their return of 20 points from 11 games given this is a virtually new team in comparison to the end of last season. Julen Lopetegui has done a decent job in terms of quickly settling on who his key men are going to be and results have largely been good. They’ll have already played all five of the teams that finished above them last season after this game having beaten Getafe and drawn at Valencia over the past seven days.

There is a bit more to worry about in the Atletico Madrid camp though you sense. They again dropped points on the road at Alaves in midweek with an 83rd minute Lucas Perez thunderbolt denying them victory after Alvaro Morata’s opening goal. Angel Correa again impressed in that game and is likely to keep his place in the team with Diego Costa struggling for form and Joao Felix sidelined through injury.

Atleti still average just 1 goal per game this season in La Liga and their lack of a goal threat is becoming an increasing concern with each passing game with the summer loss of Antoine Griezmann perhaps only now being truly felt. Sevilla have only netted three more times and have their own problems at number nine but Lucas Ocampos has at least been a consistent threat from wide with his four goals so far in La Liga, the most by any player on either of these teams.

If Sevilla can play with a bit of tempo and perhaps be a bit bolder than they were in the recent home game against Real Madrid, this match could be there for the taking for them. It’s sure to be a terrific atmosphere at the RSP and if they can bag the first goal, you’d fancy them to go and win this against an Atleti side which doesn’t really convince at the moment.
