Barcelona head to Madrid for the first time this season on Saturday to take on a Getafe side that has just started to find a bit of form. They staged a dramatic comeback to rescue a point at the Mestalla in midweek and judging by Barcelona’s current away form, they might just fancy they can cause an upset here.
It’s even debatable how much of a shock it would be if Getafe got something from this game. They came so close to qualifying for the Champions League last season and have started to find their feet this term after a shaky start. They head into this game following back-to-back home wins prior to that point from a thrilling 3-3 draw in Valencia.
Barcelona were also midweek winners as they saw off Villarreal 2-1 at Camp Nou. That game saw Ernesto Valverde start with Luis Suarez, Leo Messi and Antoine Griezmann in the same team for the first time. However the victory was marred by a groin injury to Messi which appears to have ruled him out of this game.
Clearly that’s an enormous boost for Getafe who ought to really fancy their chances here. They should pose problems for a Geta side who haven’t been their usual defensively solid selves with 5 goals conceded in their last 2 league outings. However they have carried a threat going forward with Jaime Mata starting well again while they have a few more wide options this season which has added to their creative powers.
