Villarreal vs Real Madrid predictions, H2H and match preview for this Sunday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as Los Blancos head to the Ceramica aiming to bounce back from dropped points last weekend.
Villarreal vs Real Madrid Preview
The final game in La Liga before the international break promises to be a good one. Villarreal’s clashes with Real Madrid in recent years have produced plenty of goals and talking points and this should be no different if Villarreal’s 4-4 draw in their opening home game is anything to go by. The match should also give us a better indication of whether or not Real Madrid are shaping up for a much stronger campaign or whether it could be more of the same.
To the frustration of Real Madrid fans not to mention the coach, Los Blancos are again likely to name an eleven here entirely consisting of players who were at the club last season, the club’s worst in many years. Eden Hazard remains an injury concern and the clock is ticking with regards to the transfer deadline and it now looks unlikely that any major new arrivals will come in.
That has of course given Gareth Bale a second chance to win over Zinedine Zidane and he’ll be eager to put in a performance here with the Welshman and Vinicius likely to be competing for one position once Hazard gets up to full fitness. They’ll both be up against a much-changed Villarreal defence from last season but so far the Yellow Submarine have failed to stem the leaking of goals.
They’ve shipped 6 in 2 matches against Granada and Levante and have again twice let winning positions slip, a recurring theme throughout last season. Javier Calleja has made some bold calls such as opting for Andres Fernandez over Sergio Asenjo in goal but as yet, he has failed to find the optimum solution to his defensive problems.
Villarreal vs Real Madrid Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-1 Real Madrid
This fixture virtually guarantees goals and this one should be no different. The early signs are that a few Real Madrid players are at least looking a bit sharper this term and they’ll take confidence from having gone to Balaidos and won on the opening weekend at another venue where they’ve at times slipped up. With Villarreal still making silly mistakes at the back and leaking goals, Zidane’s men could celebrate a second away victory of the season here although it’s hard to see them keeping a clean sheet.
