Barcelona vs Real Betis Preview

Barcelona and Betis played out one of the best matches of last season with the Seville club stunning 4-3 winners at Camp Nou. The return clash wasn’t bad either with Leo Messi scoring a sublime goal in a convincing Barca win at the Benito Villamarin but plenty has changed at both clubs since then and neither could make a positive start to this season.

Betis were surprisingly beaten at home by Valladolid although they were severely hampered by an early sending off to their goalkeeper Joel Robles. He’ll be suspended here which means new signing Dani Martin will make his full debut in goal following his move from Sporting Gijon. Betis are sweating over the fitness of Borja Iglesias though and he may have to wait to make his first start following his move from Espanyol.

As for Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde surprisingly opted to leave both Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic out against Athletic last time out. Following a 1-0 defeat at San Mames, he’s likely to revert to his senior players here. Barca are also likely to have Leo Messi back which clearly makes an enormous difference although Luis Suarez is injured for this one meaning Antoine Griezmann is set to lead the line.

The Frenchman could do with a goal to really kick off his Barcelona career and help win over any fans who still hold some bitterness towards him following his decision to reject a move to the club in 2018. Rafinha may complete the Barca front three with the Brazilian one of the few bright sparks for Valverde’s side at San Mames last week.

Barcelona vs Real Betis Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Barcelona

Betis were brilliant on this ground last season but with a new coach and plenty of summer changes to their team, it’s hard to see them hitting those heights again as early as match-day two. Barcelona were a long way from their fluent best last week and there’s plenty for their fans to be a bit concerned about right now but with Messi back, they should have enough individual quality on the pitch to bag all the points from this game.
