This Saturday’s late game comes from the Coliseum Alfonso Perez as Getafe play host to Athletic. Both sides faced ‘big three’ tests an the opening weekend. Athletic stunned Barcelona with Aritz Aduriz netting a sensational late goal to kick off the new campaign. There was no such joy for Getafe though despite a competitive showing in their 1-0 defeat away to local rivals Atleti.

Their record against that opposition is so bad that they’d probably have expected to be coming into this game with no points on the board. It isn’t much better against Athletic in truth but they did end a nine game winless streak against the Basque giants with a 1-0 victory earlier this year.

We should see a more positive approach from Geta this weekend after they effectively played with two sets of full-backs last time out. Nemanja Maksimović, a mainstay of their team last season, should come into the central midfield with new boy Fayçal Fajr likely to move over to the right flank. They will also be forced into a change up top with Jorge Molina suspended following his red card at the Wanda.

Athletic meanwhile aren’t likely to change much having beaten the champions. Ibai Gomez is a contender to come into the side but last week’s super sub Aritz Aduriz may have to settle for a place on the bench again. It’ll be a good test of where Athletic are at and should tell us a bit more about whether they are willing to throw caution to the wind a bit more this season on the road.

It’s hard to see many goals in this match. Both coaches tend to favour defensive tactics and have instilled real organisation and discipline in their respective teams. Athletic may look to play on the break with Williams but if there’s going to be a winner, Geta still look the more likely victors. Even under Gaizka Garitano, Athletic weren’t that convincing away last season, losing 4 of their final 5 road games and there’s no real reason to expect Getafe to be any weaker now with no major summer departures following on from their excellent 5th place finish last term.
