Real Betis vs Real Valladolid Preview
After a toxic end to last season under Quique Setien, there should be a real sense of a new era as Rubi takes charge of Real Betis for the first time in a competitive setting on Sunday. Real Valladolid are the visitors and they’ll be keen to try and build on a successful season last time around when they were the only one of the newly promoted teams to beat the drop.
They’ll be expected to struggle again this term though. Boss Sergio may be a little frustrated that more money has been invested by the club this summer. They have at least managed to use owner Ronaldo’s close links to Real Madrid to help bring in Jorge de Frutos and Javi Sánchez on loan and it is that market in which they’ve done most of their business.
Betis haven’t done as many deals but the ones they have been involved in are almost all significant ones. First team regulars Pau Lopez, Giovani Lo Celso and Junior Firpo have all left. However they appear to have re-invested wisely with Nabil Fekir and Borja Iglesias heading up their list of new recruits. The latter only joined from Espanyol this week so has had little time to bed in but Rubi may be tempted to hand his new striker a start given he knows exactly what qualities to expect from a player he worked with closely last season at Espanyol.
Juanmi will also be hoping he gets the nod to lead this attack following a summer move from Real Sociedad. Sandro Ramirez is another man to leave Anoeta over the past couple of months and he’ll be hoping to end a goal drought of more than two years with the former Everton man likely to start up top for the visitors.

Real Betis vs Real Valladolid Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-0 Betis
The Benito Villamarin wasn’t a particularly pleasant place to be towards the end of last season with supporters turning against coach Quique Setien in large numbers. They ultimately got what they wanted and there should at least be the sensation of players, coach and fans all singing from the same hymn-sheet here which is key at such a big atmospheric ground. Valladolid haven’t really added enough quality to suggest they will be anything but strugglers again and this looks like a good opportunity for Betis to get off to a winning start.
