Saturday will be a huge day for football fans on the island of Mallorca as top flight action returns to Son Moix. Real Mallorca have endured a turbulent few years that have seen them drop to the depths of the Segunda B before claiming back-to-back promotions to seal their place amongst the Spanish elite again. They start the campaign as the bookies favourites for relegation but they may take some inspiration from their first opponents Eibar who have defied all expectations to establish themselves as a top flight club.
The Basque minnows have been active this summer with Joan Jordan and Ruben Pena departing and the likes of Pedro Bigas, Takashi Inui and Alvaro Tejero arriving on permanent deals. The return of Inui is certainly a boost heading into the new campaign while they’ve also managed to capture two of the most impressive players in the second tier last term in the shape of Expósito and Quique from Depor.
José Luis Mendilibar will have a few selection dilemmas heading into this game and indeed the season as he attempts to figure out his strongest eleven. He will be desperate to improve on a poor away record last term and in theory this game offers them a decent chance to start on the right note.
Mallorca were formidable at home though in the back end of last season with a brilliant 3-0 win over Depor turning around their Play-Off Final. They will need to make Son Moix something of a fortress if they are going to stand much chance of beating the drop this term and there is sure to be a cracking atmosphere when Mallorca make their long-awaited top flight return this Saturday.

Score Prediction: 2-1 Mallorca
Mallorca look short on top flight quality on the whole but they will take a bit of a bounce into the new season with wonderful memories of that play-off victory still fresh. Eibar have enjoyed the underdog tag over their years in the top flight but there is a bit more expectation these days which adds its own pressures. Their new-look team may take a few games to gel too and having won just twice on the road in 2018/19, they might just come unstuck here against a Mallorca side that will be well backed and very hungry for a positive start.
