Leganes vs Osasuna Preview
Osasuna are back in the top flight and they return as Segunda Division champions and perhaps the best equipped of the newly promoted teams to stay afloat this season. They travel to Leganes on the opening weekend. Butarque was a bit of a fortress for Lega last term as they achieved their best ever league finish with none of the top six managing to claim victory at the South Madrid ground.
This will be Leganes’ fourth season as a top flight club and increasingly they are starting to act like one. Their recent policy of relying heavily on loan players has been reverted slightly this summer with a number of players who were on temporary deals last season joining on permanent transfers. That gives the club a bit more stability and should make things simpler moving forwards.
Mauricio Pellegrino has certainly been backed in the transfer window with permanent deals for the likes of Martin Braithwaite and Kenneth Omeruou taking Lega’s spending up towards €20 million. They’ve also added Roque Mesa and Chidozie Awaziem on loan in the days leading up to the big kick-off but this game may come too soon for them.
Osasuna have also prioritised trying to tie up deals for players who did well on loan last season. They’ve been largely successful in that department and have also added Chimy Avila who is quite an exciting signing after he impressed for Huesca in the top flight last term. He’ll be hoping to make his debut here although Jagoba Arrasate is likely to largely stick with the side that ran away with the second tier title last term.

Leganes vs Osasuna Predictions
Score Prediction: 1-0 Leganes
While Osasuna were champions of the Segunda Division by a relatively big margin, they weren’t a free-scoring side and the main concern with them this season is whether they are going to score enough goals. Leganes are very strong at the back, particularly at home and it’s hard to see the new boys creating much in this match.
The only sour note heading into the new season for Lega is a dispute between the club and forward Youssef En-Nesyri who is said to be unhappy after the club rejected the summer advances of Premier League Brighton. That may cost him a starting role here but Lega should still have just enough firepower to edge this one and it’s worth noting that 6 of their 8 home wins last term in La Liga were by 1-0 margins.
