Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid Preview
After six months of football with little riding on it, Real Madrid finally have a game that truly matters. Despite the time he has had to prepare for this moment, there is still plenty of scepticism flying around when it comes Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid second time around. Despite a summer of heavy spending, the eleven that takes to the field at Balaidos will have a very familiar look to it and it’s one that has flattered to deceive in pre-season.
Eden Hazard is the only guaranteed starter of the new boys but he has suffered a hamstring injury and will miss this game. That means Real are still heavily reliant on the players that largely failed last term. There may be a new formation though. Zidane has experimented with a 3-5-2 during pre-season and may prefer the comfort of three at the back in a potentially tricky opening game. That would mean Éder Militão makes his competitive debut for the club following his move from Porto.
There is also plenty of intrigue surrounding Celta Vigo as they head into the new season. They’ve brought local boys Santi Mina and Denis Suarez back to the club although the former is injured here so won’t be able to make his second Celta debut. They’ve also looked to rectify their defensive problems with Joseph Aidoo joining from Genk. The Ghanaian should slot straight into the team at centre-back.
Celta ended finishing way down in 17th last term but this is by no means an easy game for Los Blancos. The Galicians won 4 of their final 5 home fixtures in La Liga last season and if they’d had talisman Iago Aspas fit for the whole campaign, they’d surely have finished much higher up the division.

Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-2 Draw
A few goals look highly likely in this game as while both sides have taken steps to fix defensive issues, you have to question whether either of them have really done enough. There have been 4 or more goals in all of the last 6 meetings at Balaidos between this pair and for Celta, the best form of defence is often to attack, even against the stronger teams. Aspas will clearly be their main attacking weapon again while at the other end Real will be hoping Karim Benzema can pick up from where he left off last term. A score draw looks possible here.
