The Valencia derby may not be the biggest city derby in Spain but a victory at the Mestalla would mean the world to fans of Levante. It’s something they’ve never managed and in truth they are unlikely to buck that trend this weekend as the sides do battle again.
Valencia are currently in the middle of a run of three straight games against local rivals. They scored two fine late goals to win 3-1 at Villarreal in the 1st Leg of the Europa League Quarter-Final on Thursday night. That really eases the pressure ahead of the return at the Mestalla next week. They can’t ease up here though as they have a plenty of ground to make up as they target 4th place in La Liga following defeat at Rayo last weekend, their 1st loss in 18 games in all competitions.
Levante meanwhile are currently struggling for form and missed a chance to put distance between themselves and the relegation zone as they could only draw at home to bottom club Huesca last time out. Anything here would be a bonus in truth but it is now shaping up to be a nervy end to the season for Paco Lopez and his team.
Both clubs generally favour a counter-attacking style so this will be an interesting game from a tactical perspective. The onus will clearly be on Valencia to dictate the pace of the game but they will have to be wary of any Levante counter-attacks.

Carlos Soler is having a decent second half of the season. No other Valencia player has created more goals in La Liga this term than the youngster.
