This one features two of the form teams in La Liga right now. Leganes have found a few key results in recent weeks. They are bidding to win their 3rd straight league game here, something they’ve never previously managed in the top flight. It won’t be easy though with Real Sociedad unbeaten since they made the decision to sack former Lega boss Asier Garitano and appoint Imanol.
Nothing can take away from the miracles Garitano pulled off at Butarque but neither Leganes nor Real Sociedad have really missed him so far. Leganes took a while to get going under Mauricio Pellegrino but they’ve started to look like a side that is more than capable of beating the drop with solid defensive foundations and increasing signs of quality in the final third.
Sociedad also looked in a little bit of bother at one stage but they come into this match in 9th place. With a host of sides above them involved in European and Copa del Rey action, La Real could just take advantage of playing only one game per week to really push for Europa League qualification through the league. They will need to start winning a few more home games to do that though and even since the coaching switch, they’ve been drawing too many matches with 5 of their 8 so far under Imanol ending level.
This should be a competitive game. Sociedad are the favourites but the injury absence of Asier Illarramendi is a blow. He brings control in midfield and will be missed. Leganes were criticised by Quique Setien last week for their direct, physical approach. Somebody needs to remind the Betis boss that there is more than one way to play football and judging by the 3-0 scoreline, there is not a lot wrong with how Leganes are operating right now.
