COMPETITION – La Liga

This is a match between two sides who are battling to be as strong in the second half of the season as they were in the first. That will be a big ask in both cases and Levante in particular will need to be a bit wary of slipping into a relegation scrap. Alaves have surely accumulated enough points to be at serious risk of that. However a European challenge is now looking somewhat less likely.

In fairness to Abelardo, at no point has he suggested his side were genuinely capable of sticking around in the top six for the duration of the season. He will be eager to stop a run of three straight defeats here and this game does give them a decent opportunity to do just that. Alaves can count on the services of Takashi Inui and he should be a decent signing for them that will ease the blow of losing Ibai Gomez. He is a slightly different kind of winger but the Japanese international is a proven performer at this level and was perhaps unfortunate to not get more game-time at Betis.

As for Levante, they’ve not been playing as well away from home as they were in the earlier part of the season. However some improved home results have helped compensate for that. Their hopes of getting back on track on their travels are hampered here by a couple of significant absentees.  José Campaña is suspended so we should see Nikola Vukcevic and Enis Bardhi in the holding midfield roles and it’s not quite such an effective combination.

Fellow midfielder Rubén Rochina is also out injured which further limits their options. Meanwhile Toño has reportedly been imprisoned in a curious extortion case so it’s fair to say Levante’s build-up to this game hasn’t been ideal.

Alaves vs Levante Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Alaves

Betting Tip: Alaves Win @ 2.15 with Spin Palace Sports

Neither side is in great form but the arrival of Inui, at long last after the Asian Cup, will give Alaves a boost. They should have more attacking threat with him in the side and with Levante facing some selection dilemmas, a home victory looks the more likely outcome here.

Alaves vs Levante H2H

  • Last 6 meetings: 4 Alaves Win, 1 Draw, 1 Levante Win.
  • Levante were 2-1 winners when the sides met in Valencia earlier this term.
  • That was their first 21st Century victory over Alaves.
  • Alaves have taken 7 points from their last 3 home league games over Levante, although 2 of those matches were over a decade ago.

One to Watch – Takashi Inui

The Japanese international is back from the Asian Cup and can finally turn out for Alaves following his January move from Betis. He is set to fill the void left by Ibai Gomez.
