Alaves vs Rayo Vallecano predictions, H2H and match preview for this Monday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis, betting tips and predicted line-ups as the visitors look to keep their good form going.
DATE/TIME – Monday 28th January, 21:00 (Spanish Time)
STADIUM – Mendizorrotza
COMPETITION – La Liga
#AlavesRayo
This is a fascinating contest in many respects. Alaves hammered Rayo 5-1 in Madrid earlier this season and had much the better first half of the campaign. However the momentum is more with the visitors here with Rayo’s form improving dramatically in recent weeks. Alaves meanwhile have had a slightly disappointing January in a number of respects and will hope to get their European push back on track here.
They did sign Takashi Inui last week on loan from Betis. He could prove an excellent signing as they seek to replace Ibai Gomez. However Inui is still away at the Asian Cup while their most creative player this term Jony is out injured so again they will have to go with essentially their back-up widemen here. Abelardo will be hungry for a response after an abject 4-0 defeat at Getafe in their most recent game.
As for Rayo, they’ve taken 10 points from their last 4 matches to breathe new life into their survival push. They remain in the thick of the relegation scrap but unquestionably now they will believe that survival is a possibility. The goals of Raul de Tomas have been key all season but we’ve seen big performances from the likes of Santi Comesana in recent weeks, with the midfielder scoring a screamer last time out.
Alaves have had 10 days to digest the result at Getafe and will be determined to come out firing here. It will be tougher without the likes of Jony to inspire them but they will take confidence from the win over Rayo earlier this term and are the favourites to clinch maximum points here.
Alaves vs Rayo Vallecano Predictions
Score Prediction: 1-0 Alaves
Betting Tip: Alaves Win @ 5/4 with Spin Palace Sports
Rayo have been in fine form but their results at home have largely been the source of that. On the road, they aren’t as convincing and defensively they remain vulnerable and could easily have lost to Sociedad at home last weekend having led 2-0. Alaves may be short on creative options but they will count on Rayo’s backline making an error or two. Alaves are generally very solid at the back, particularly at home and last week’s defensive showing at Getafe was probably just a blip. They could grind out a typical battling home win here.

One to Watch – Jonathan Calleri

Jonathan Calleri has been a bit of an unsung hero for Alaves this term. His goal figures aren’t great but his link-up play has been important to the team.
