This match will have the feel of a real relegation six-pointer. Nobody is really expecting Huesca’s victory over Betis last weekend to be the start of any miraculous escape act. They remain 8 points from safety heading into this match but victory at Butarque would certainly a raise a few eyebrows and give Huesca a renewed sense of belief. Leganes though will see this as a really good chance to get another three points on the board on their road to survival.
They rotated heavily in the Copa del Rey, resting talisman Guido Carrillo altogether at the Bernabeu as new signing Martin Braithwaite made his debut. The former Middlesbrough man spurned several good chances in that game but his pace will add an extra dimension to Leganes’ attacking threat, at least from the bench. It’ll be interesting to see how Leganes do approach this as they’ve not really played a game all season where they are such heavy favourites. Even so, they are likely to stick with their relatively direct style.
Huesca have played some good football this term and they finally got some reward last weekend as a 2-1 victory over Betis gave them their first win since the opening day. It was also their first ever top flight home win and a moment to savour for their fans. They will need plenty more days like that though if they are to beat the drop. Leganes are certainly one of the sides they will think they at least have an outside chance of catching so this is a significant game.
Both sides are missing one man to suspension with Gerard Gumbau banned for the hosts and Xabier Etxeita out for Huesca. Jorge Pulido and Pablo Insua should line up in central defence as a result for the visitors and how they deal with Leganes’ aerial threat is likely to be key to determining the outcome of this one.

If Leganes do stay up this term, you sense Guido Carrillo will be a big reason why. He is going a long way to rebuilding his reputation for the Madrid club and should be a constant threat here.
