STADIUM – Mestalla

COMPETITION – La Liga

This Sunday’s game is a pretty significant one for both sides. Huesca are fast running out of time when it comes to finally putting another win on the board that could kickstart their season before it all becomes academic. Meanwhile Marcelino may be in a similar kind of boat. While Valencia are surely far too good to go down, failure to see off Huesca at home, may force the board to seriously question whether or not their coach is capable of rekindling the kind of form that saw Los Che excel last term.

While Valencia come into this unbeaten in 4 in all competitions, they still haven’t really put in a performance to suggest they are anything like back to their best. Their most recent victories were narrow home wins against minnows Ebro in the Copa del Rey and an out of sorts Manchester United in a largely irrelevant Champions League match.

Huesca’s season meanwhile can be pretty much summed up by their ability to play quite well without winning. They at least come into this game on a little bit of a high having salvaged a draw against Villarreal in Stoppage Time last weekend. They’d have been 10 points off safety had they lost that so it was a vital goal against the side directly above the drop-zone but it’s hard to see it making much difference in the long run.

The Aragonese minnows remain winless since the opening day and for all Valencia’s struggles, it would still be a massive shock were they to slip up here. Los Che are missing some of last season’s star performers to injury with Gonçalo Guedes having gone under the knife to fix a long-standing problem this month. However the way he and one or two others have been playing, shaking the team up a bit may be no bad thing.

Valencia vs Huesca Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-0 Valencia

Huesca come into this game following 6 straight away league defeats and it will surely become 7 here. Valencia should control the play and if they are willing to be patient, the chances should eventually come. Huesca’s main issue is an inability to finish the chances that come their way. In a match where they are unlikely to create much in any case, it’s hard to see the visitors scoring.

Valencia vs Huesca H2H

  • This will be the first ever league meeting!
  • They’ve not met competitively or in a friendly this century.

One to Watch – Carlos Soler

Injuries to Francis Coquelin and Geoffrey Kondogbia give youngster Carlos Soler the rare chance to feature in his preferred central role and it’ll be interesting to see how he does.
