This Sunday’s clash in Seville sees the hosts targeting a 10th straight home victory in all competitions against a Girona side that has been enjoying life on the road this term. They may have ridden their luck at times but they won’t travel to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with any fear although numerous selection concerns do make life difficult for Eusebio.
The Catalans look set to be without keeper Bono again and the Moroccan has been an inspiration this term, particularly on the road with some fine saves helping seal key results such as the 1-0 win at Valencia last month. The likes of Aday Benitez and Johan Mojica also remain out while Patrick Roberts has picked up a knock just when he appeared to be forcing his way into the first team on a regular basis. Girona lost their first away game of the season on Monday night in Bilbao and will need a much better performance if they are to get anything here.
They will of course be up against their former boss. Pablo Machin left the Catalan club to join Sevilla in the summer and it’s not a move he will be regretting one bit. Sevilla are riding high in La Liga and sealed Europa League progress on Thursday night with 2019 shaping up to be a bright year for the Andalusian club. The hosts will have to do without the suspended Franco Vazquez here but Roque Mesa is fit again now and they have one or two more options in the middle of the park overall.
Ever Banega has excelled in an unfamiliar holding role so it will be interesting to see how Pablo Machin goes now he has some more defensive midfielders available again. Overall Sevilla will fancy this against a Girona side that has perhaps been a bit fortunate to get the kind of away results they’ve been getting this term.

Sevilla should have this one in the bag. Girona’s results have been better than their performances for the most part and they are very dependent on Stuani for goals. Pablo Machin will know the opponents inside out and his side has enough class to seal a 10th straight home win in all competitions with a bit of breathing space.

Pablo Sarabia is having a fine season in the number 10 role with 13 goals already in all competitions for Sevilla. An international call-up is surely overdue.
