DATE/TIME – Sunday 30th September 2018, 20:45 (CEST)

STADIUM – Estadio Benito Villamarin, Seville

COMPETITION – La Liga

This Sunday’s late game in La Liga sees Real Betis and Leganes meet with both sides in good spirits following impressive wins in midweek. Leganes pulled off one of the most famous victories in their history as they beat champions Barcelona 2-1 at Butarque. The following night, Betis put in perhaps their most accomplished display of the season so far to win at Girona.

Therefore this one is nicely set up but the onus will certainly be on Betis to dictate the tempo and they could well have in excess of 70% of the ball here with Leganes likely to employ a counter-attacking approach. Betis came unstuck against that sort of a game-plan on the opening night when they were beaten at home by Levante but they are unbeaten since then. Their big challenge this season is trying to balance Europa League and La Liga action. Quique Setien has already signalled his intent to take Europe very seriously so we could see a fair bit of rotation here from the hosts.

Leganes aren’t likely to alter much having picked up their first win of the season on a dramatic match-day 6 in La Liga. They were propping up the table prior to that with Mauricio Pellegrino making a pretty slow start to his reign. However 3 points against the champions should give them a huge lift and they’d not been as bad as their record suggested prior to that. This though is another pretty difficult match to call.

Real Betis vs Leganes Prediction

Score Prediction: Real Betis 2-0 Leganes

Leganes put a lot into their win in midweek and you wonder if there could be a bit of tiredness here. Betis have a squad built for rotation and their ability to bring in some fresh legs of genuine quality could be decisive. They struggled a bit in the opening few weeks as the new arrivals bedded in but the likes of Sergio Canales are starting to make big contributions now and they should have enough quality to claim back-to-back wins here.

Real Betis vs Leganes H2H

  • All 4 top flight meetings between these two have produced home wins.
  • Betis won this fixture 3-2 last season but lost 3-2 at Butarque.
  • Betis have won 3 of their 4 home games against Leganes this century.
  • The exception was a 3-1 defeat in the Segunda Division in 2015.
  • The last 3 meetings have produced 4 or more goals.

One to Watch – Joaquin

Betis’ rotation policy should see Joaquin come into the starting eleven. Even at the grand old age of 37, the veteran winger remains a joy to watch.
